KC + Tim | La Jolla, CA

The day couldn't have been more beautiful for KC and Tim's La Jolla engagement session and it was full of surprises! I so loved catching up with KC since our summers working at Camp MiVoden in Idaho. The spark in her eyes and the way that Tim just adores her made this friend happy.

A seagull stopped in for his moment of fame.

The cutest surprise of the evening was the wave that creeped up on the lovebirds, and Tim whisking KC out of the water! Such an adorable couple!

Soaking up the sun light...

May= weddings, 12 hour editing days, meetings with brides, family sessions and numerous graduations.  To say this month has been busy would be putting it mildly. But in the midst of all the craziness I took B.O.B.'s advise in his new song, So Good...

Nachos worth "flying" for!

Meet the most amazing nachos ever! On a recent photography trip to Texas two of my clients suggested we stop so I could try their new favorite place, Yucatan Taco Stand. I am forever grateful to them... well, except for the fact they introduced me to my new favorite food that is miles away in Texas. :( They are so good I'd be tempted to hop on a plane just to get them!

For $8 you get this huge plate of nachos, covered in a garlic aioli sauce, a queso sauce, shredded veggies, cilantro, cabbage, queso fresco, and a huge serving of guacamole. Oh and to top it off... there is this sweet and spicy sauce at every table! If you are ever in the Fort Worth area you must visit, Yucatan Taco Stand!

A love affair with Gelato...

Gelato

There is honestly nothing better then Gelato... well, maybe not. But I must say it is one of my favorite desserts! Last year while in Italy visiting my friend, Jess, I would daily wander the city of Florance, gelato in hand.

I've tried gelato in little shops back home in the US... but they don't quite compare. That is until...

I tried Talenti Gelato!

Talenti is right up there with the Gelatos of Italy. I stumbled upon it one day in the grocery,
and I should probably regret that day. I've tried the Salted Caramel and the Caribbean
Coconut, both are divine! Now I can have a little taste of Italy without hopping a plane.

A View to the Year Ahead from the Perspective of the Past!

I spent this first week of the new year on Sanibel Island, FL. After the craziness of the holidays, which for me includes family time and last minute Christmas photo sessions, it's time for some R&R. Thankfully my parents planned a Mystery Trip for our family. The evening of New Years Eve we hopped a flight down to Sanibel. We made it just in time to walk on the beach and watch the fireworks light up the coast of Ft. Meyers and Naples as the clock struck midnight.

Sanibel Starfish

It was the perfect way to celebrate the new year... While looking forward to the new year, I also looked back 13 years to the last time I had walked along that shell covered beach. Sanibel Island is such a special place in my heart. Every year till I was 10 I spent the winters there, weather just for a couple weeks or for a couple months some years. Being there this past week was like coming home.

We spent the week soaking up the sun, riding bikes around the island, eating at favorite places and reliving memories. I had time to sit and reflect on this new year, where I am heading both with my business and personal life. During this time God opened doors and laid out plans for me, things beyond my wildest imagination! I find it amazing every time I receive another direction from Him. I love the verse in 1 Corinthians 2:9,
"No one's ever seen or heard anything like this,
Never so much as imagined anything quite like it.
What God has arranged for those who love him."

This week has reminded me of that. It's something I cling to on the days where my direction is not so clear. For He has and always will show me His will. I pray that He directs each and every one of you in this coming year. For His plans are the best plans!

2011 in Review!

What an unbelievable year 2011 was! The blessings this year have been abundant in both my personal life and photography business. I have developed some incredible memories and friendships along the way this year. Thought I would share a review of some of the highlights from 2011...

Camp Mivoden:
I spent my second summer working at Camp Mivoden in Idaho. For three months I taught photography and hung out with some really cool people. Definitely a highlight of the year! Click below to read a blog post about my summer.

Travel:
This year found me on the road a lot, some for business and some for pleasure. Here are two of the pleasure trips I went on. Jess, a roommate from college, was living in Italy for the year and I hopped on the opportunity to visit her in abroad. The second trip was a family mystery trip, to Vienna and Prague to learn about our family roots. The best part was that it was a surprise till getting our tickets at the airport. Both of these trips provided awesome photographic opportunities.

Business:
This year was filled with growth for Caressa Rogers Photography. The year started with the launch of the new Caressa Rogers Photography website and update of camera equipment, with the Canon Mark II. In the fall, I won tickets from photographer, Jasmine Star to a 3 day conference hosted by Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. October came and I launched the website Travel Photography by Caressa Rogers. All of the growth would not be possible if it weren't for the 27 amazing clients I worked with this year! I am so blessed to have such wonderful, supportive clients and friends. I'm so happy about how much Caressa Rogers Photography has grown in 2011. Click below to read more about some of the areas of growth!

The [UN]Tour!

Fellow lovers of photography, travel, adventure and awesome web design you must check out The [UN] Tour! Photographer Khara Plicanic and her husband Emir, are providing one of the most epic, creative photography tours I've ever! Khara and Emir are biking from California to Florida providing FREE photo classes at 8 cities! When asked about why it's called The [UN]Tour they responded, "We’re hitting the road for this self-funded teaching adventure because 1) we’re [UN]deniably addicted to travel and love a good challenge 2) we’re [UN]doubtedly passionate about the things we’re teaching and 3) it’s truly [UN]like any other touring workshop we’ve ever heard of."

I was shocked to find out that Khara and Emir just picked up biking and hit the road in San Diego with no training. Hats off to you guys! To follow their adventure and read more about their travel prep check out their blog.

Remember theses classes are open to anyone and are super beneficial to both beginner and pro photographers! If your city is one of their stops, i encourage you to go! Not only is it going to be an amazing opportunity but also fun to support their [Un]Tour!

A Free Ticket to WPPI U | Atlanta

I love following other photographers blogs. When I began my business just about 2 years ago I would spend hours pouring over blogs, reading articles on marketing, photographing techniques and tip. I still love reading blogs, and will weekly catch up on my favorite fellow photographers. I just wish I had more time!

During my weekly dose of photo blog reading a couple weeks ago, Jasmine Star, an amazing international wedding photographer, offered a chance to win tickets to WPPI U to hear her speak. On a whim I entered and forgot about it. The next week I found an email from Jasmine telling me I had won! (Thanks Jasmine!)

For those of you who don't know about WPPI, Wedding and Portrait Photographers International, it's a convention held yearly in Las Vegas. I had won tickets to the 3 day WPPI University Convention in Atlanta and then to the major convention in Las Vegas next February.

CRP_WPPIU_1

The convention in Atlanta was one of the most incredible experiances of my photography career. There were over 400 photographers hanging on every word of valuable advise from the presenters. Topics ranged from the creative side of the photography like posing of subjects, lighting, and editing to the important more business side. I took notes like a mad woman! :)

CRP_WPPIU_4b

Not only did I learn so much which I will be applying to my business, but also chatted with and made friends with others who are passionate about photography. (Shall share more about a couple really cool gals in a future post.)

A Quick Dash Through Paris!

Pin It On the way to Italy I had a 11 hour layover in Paris... The temptation was too great... I hopped on the Metro and ventured into the city. Here is a glimpse of the 5 hours I spent running through Paris to capture as much of this great city as I could. From the It was defiantly an experience I will never forget!

A Tiramisu to Remember!

Tiramisu
My love for Tiramisu began over two years ago in Rosario, Argentina. My best friend, Alli Gerard and I had taken a weekend trip to Rosario during our semester studying in Argentina. We had been site seeing all day and were famished. After an amazing meal of Pumpkin Ravioli we decided to treat ourselves to Tiramisu. It was my first taste of Tiramisu and I shall forever remember it! It had an incredible amount of the luscious cream filling and just enough of the lady fingers.

The above picture is after we had taken our first bite. Since then whenever Alli and I are together and Tiramisu is an option on the menu there is no question we will finish our meal with it. Unfortunately, we have not yet met a Tiramisu that has beat that first experience in Argentina. Do you have a favorite food that is forever etched in your memory? I'd love to hear about it!
